viola reindeer and violin baby boom

This weekend brought the first of an onslaught of holiday-themed programming for the month of December.  We’ve been enjoying the vocal stylings of the Von Trapp Family Singers (the actual great-grandchildren of the stars of the musical and movie) and the cool arrangements of our principal pops conductor Jeff Tyzik (the Little Bolero Drummer Boy is a favorite).  We were advised to give some touches of holiday cheer to our wardrobes for these concerts, and here’s what the viola section came up with:

And principal second violinist Chien Tan showed me a photo of the results of a recent violin baby boom:

From left to right: former OSO violinist Lisa Hansen with Zane (7 weeks), Chien Tan with Larissa (7 months), and former OSO violinist (now with the Seattle Symphony) Ayako Gamo with Sayuki (13 months).  What a beautiful collection of moms and babies!
