In a change of pace from recent posts, here’s a recent photo of some latte art that I’ve done. Doing a different kind of rosette these days, and getting a bit better at it…
Oh, and I recently completed my first half-century (50 mile) ride last weekend. Not much time to ride this week, but hoping [...]

I got in to the Sunriver Resort community around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, unpacked and promptly went to bed. The festival started right off the bat this morning with a 9:30 a.m. rehearsal. We worked on Schumann’s First Symphony “Spring” and the Beethoven Third Piano Concerto with Van Cliburn silver medalist Yeol Eum Son. I [...]

The goal for the 30 days between July 2 – August 2 was to ride 300 miles. I came pretty close – 282 miles, to be exact. I finished with a 42 miler and a 35 miler, both out in Washington county, a place with some beautiful rides, lovely roads, and some really a-hole SUV [...]

Let’s all send out some serious “Allez, allez!” vibes to the Oregonian’s classical music critic David Stabler, as he rides the Seattle to Portland Classic today – and he’s doing it on a team that is doing the entire ride in one day! Â That’s some serious average speed and a lot of [...]

I just ordered this jersey from the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which I will wear during my rides in honor of both my fellow violist survivor Jen Drake, and also the members of the Oregon Symphony who we’ve lost to cancer over the last few years: Martha Herby and Ken Baldwin. I’m also in the process [...]
Did a great ride up Rocky Butte, one of Portland’s great cycling climb routes. The views from the top make the grind worthwhile, and all things considered, it’s not that bad a climb (but not easy, either) at about 1.7 miles.

Did a nice ride up to Mt. Tabor and back today – it was a perfect early spring day, even the usual crappy Portland drivers seemed to be minding the road a bit better today! However, Mr. Lindberg is already entering my brain, exhorting me to start practicing his difficult piece Feria for Monday’s rehearsal…

Today I looked through the excellent “Rubber to the Road” book of local cycling routes, and decided to try a new, and slightly ambitious route. It’s known as the Iowa Hill Ride – and though the hill in question is only about a mile or so in length, it is a doozy! I have to [...]

…ride, that is! It was the eight annual Worst Day of the Year Ride in Portland this morning, and when I woke up, it seemed like it might actually live up to its billing. The rain was coming down, it was dark, dreary and disgusting. But by the time I was heading out to ride [...]

This evening I registered for the annual Worst Day of the Year Ride, which should at least get me out of the house and on to the bike before Spring arrives! It should be a lot of fun. It is a production of ORBike, and benefits the Community Cycling Center, a worthy cause. This year [...]

Well, my cycling adventures continue. I was out on a ride this morning ( a beautiful fall day for riding!) with my neighbor Jon and we were coming back up Upper Boones Ferry Road on our way to Hall Blvd. I was riding in front, and I noticed a brown Ford pickup coming our way [...]

Well, I achieved today what must be one of the final prerequisites of being a cyclist rather than merely a bike rider. I wiped out – big time – and have a nice case of road rash to prove it.
I was riding over the Sellwood Bridge this afternoon, but on the roadway instead of the [...]

This morning I was without a car, and decided that a ride was in order. The question was where. I had done all the usual routes over and over, and didn’t want to do the same old thing again. So, after looking [...]
