Pragmatism is one of the most difficult traits to acquire, but also one of the most valuable traits to have. Shades of gray can defy polarization – if they’re acknowledged. Working together requires understanding a point of view other than your own, even if you don’t agree with it. Being willing to be wrong leads
It’s easy to forget, but we live on a pretty lonely planet – let’s do our part to keep it habitable.
No, you haven’t imagined it – there are some missing posts, the most recent ones, to be exact. I had some database corruption, which involved restoring from a backup, which was from several days ago, so some content was lost. Thanks goodness for backups!
Heather and I went to Bend for a winter retreat, and in spite of some rain for the first day or so, we were lucky to have gotten some nice snow on our last day. We’re playing in the Harvey Rosenkranz Orchestra with Pink Martini this New Year’s Eve – there may be an update
It’s that time of year when the blog goes on a brief hiatus for the holiday week. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you and yours! See you next year!
Hi all – if you’re using the Apple web browser Safari to read the blog, could you let me know if the comments are visible when you are looking at a single post (i.e., not the front page that never shows the actual comments, just the post content). And let me know which version of

The Oregonian reports that Oregon Symphony and the other major arts organizations in Portland have managed to stay in the black in this tough year, largely due to belt-tightening in their budgets. For the first time in five years, the Oregon Symphony balanced its budget, although the exact numbers won’t be known until an audit

See you after the New Year – hope that your holidays are safe and happy, and the new year brings success and joy.

First of all, I’ve put up a Google calendar with all of the currently scheduled Oregon Symphony concerts and education events listed. You can reach this by looking in the left sidebar for “Oregon Symphony Performance Calendar“. Next, in the right hand sidebar, you’ll see another calendar that only lists my non-Oregon Symphony performances. I

So enjoy, and don’t text and drive! If you’ve got a WordPress blog that you’d like to modify – just

First of all, we’re in the middle of a 10-day period where there’s not symphony services due to the vagaries of scheduling. In addition, I’m working on designing the brochure for Fear No Music’s upcoming season,
