What a genius Dudley Moore was, and what a shame that we lost him much too soon. A friend pointed me to this classic video of Moore doing two parodies of Britten and Weill, and then I discovered a brilliant version of Schubert’s Erlkönig, too… and then this parody of a Beethoven piano sonata,

priceless viola moment

Tonight we had one of those rare moments that is hilarious and will love on in viola section lore for years to come.  At the dress rehearsal this morning, Joël, our principal, decided to have some fun with a melody in the Tchaikovsky First Symphony that is played by the viola section.  It’s a rousing,

This amazing dessert (a viola and two eggs) is made of tons of hazelnut mousse and puff pastry, with some delicious chocolate topping to complete the effect.  It’s a viola-tastic (viola-tasty?) creation engineered (imagineered?) by Badbeard himself (with upcoming Badbeard action figures) Justin Kagan.  What an amazing dessert from an amazing guy!!
