On Feb. 28, Lincoln scholar Allen Guelzo will provide exegesis for a performance of Aaron Copland\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lincoln Portrait\u00e2\u20ac\u009d under the direction of <strong>Gregory Vajda<\/strong>. On March 14, pianist Alon Goldstein will perform Bartok\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s third piano concerto under the direction of Danail Rachev. On April 18, cellist Sharon Robinson will perform Shostakovich\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first cello concerto under the direction of her husband, Jaime Laredo. And on May 9, maestro Andrew Constantine will lead the Philharmonic orchestra and chorus in a performance of Orff\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Carmina Burana.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Each candidate will also conduct one or two Spectrum and\/or Unplugged series concerts.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and from the San Antonio Express News:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not quite \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcSan Antonio Symphony Idol,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u009d writes Deborah Martin in Sunday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (3\/9) San Antonio Express-News, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153but patrons will have a chance to weigh in on next season\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s guest conductors. Surveys will be tucked into the programs for the 2008-09 concerts to allow audience members to share their views. All but one of the guest conductors are potential successors to music director Larry Rachleff, who is leaving at the end of this season.
