{"id":739,"date":"2008-02-06T23:13:16","date_gmt":"2008-02-07T07:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2008\/02\/06\/pbsabc-news-to-broadcast-nyphil-from-north-korea\/"},"modified":"2013-02-07T18:39:15","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T02:39:15","slug":"pbsabc-news-to-broadcast-nyphil-from-north-korea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2008\/02\/06\/pbsabc-news-to-broadcast-nyphil-from-north-korea\/","title":{"rendered":"pbs\/abc news to broadcast nyphil from north korea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/02\/07\/arts\/music\/07musi.html?ex=1360040400&amp;en=941927734b52d3f8&amp;ei=5124&amp;partner=permalink&amp;exprod=permalink\">This<\/a> just hit the wires moments ago &#8211; and it&#8217;s exciting stuff &#8211; I can remember in my lifetime when a major US news organization had a part in broadcasting a classical music concert.<!--more-->  The only parallel in my mind might be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/fullpage.html?res=950DEFD71731F935A15751C1A96F948260&amp;sec=&amp;spon=&amp;partner=permalink&amp;exprod=permalink\">Leonard Bernstein conducting Beethoven&#8217;s Ninth Symphony<\/a> just after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/index.html?inline=nyt-org\" title=\"More articles about the New York Philharmonic.\">New York Philharmonic<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s concert in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/index.html?inline=nyt-geo\" title=\"More news and information about North Korea.\">North Korea<\/a> on Feb. 26 will be broadcast that evening on WNET, Channel 13,  and distributed  two days later on  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/index1.html?inline=nyt-org\" title=\"More articles about Public Broadcasting Service\">PBS<\/a>, broadcast officials said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>In an unusual arrangement, ABC News will cooperate with WNET, New York\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s public television station, to produce the broadcast. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\" title=\"More articles about Bob Woodruff.\">Bob Woodruff<\/a>, a correspondent for ABC News who has reported from the tightly closed North, will provide \u00e2\u20ac\u0153behind-the-scenes coverage\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of the concert, WNET said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>the news connection is explained by WNET parent company president Neal Shapiro:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The joint WNET-ABC News effort came from a desire to jump on the newsworthy nature of the event, said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/index1.html?inline=nyt-per\" title=\"More articles about Neal Shapiro.\">Neal Shapiro<\/a>, president and chief executive of WNET\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s parent, the Educational Broadcasting Corporation, which also includes WLIW, Channel 21, on Long Island.
