I regret that it&#8217;s always immediately identified with the late Jacqueline du Pre. It seems to be one of those unfortunate situations where a piece of music and a performer&#8217;s personal circumstances are conflated (a la the movie <em>Shine<\/em> and Rachmaninoff&#8217;s Third Piano Concerto) &#8211; \u00a0it makes for articles that tug at the heart strings but does little to enlighten us to what the piece has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, Huw and Nancy have provided ample background on the piece in an interview with James Bash at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/classical\">Oregon Music News<\/a> that you can read <a href=\"http:\/\/oregonmusicnews.com\/2011\/10\/02\/conductor-huw-edwards-and-cellist-nancy-ives-talk-about-the-elgar-cello-concerto-and-the-upcoming-columbia-symphony-concert\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the concert details:<\/p>\n<p>7:30 p.m. Friday, First United Methodist Church, 1838 S.W.
