Portland Taiko<\/a>, in coordination with the Portland State University Department of Music<\/a>, will be giving a benefit concert for the relief efforts in Japan following the massive earthquake and tsunami which have ravaged the country.<\/p>\n

Portland Taiko Artistic Director Michelle Fujii said\u00a0\u201cSeeing the tragedy in Japan unfold was difficult for many of us in Portland Taiko on\u00a0a personal and visceral level. With the generosity of the artists in this program and PSU Music Department, we\u00a0are honored to co-host this event to provide urgent assistance to a country very\u00a0dear to our hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n

The performers will include\u00a0Portland Taiko (Asian American drum performance), Takohachi (Japanese taiko and dance), Mexica Tiahui (Aztec drum and dance), Mike Barber (Ten Tiny Dances), Hanzaburo Araki (shakuhachi), and many more.<\/p>\n

The concert will take place on March 22, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in Lincoln Hall Room 175 (recital hall), 1620 SW Park Avenue, Portland, Ore, 97201 [google map link<\/a>]. Admission is free, donations accepted for MercyCorps<\/a>.<\/p>\n
