It’s finally official: the New York Philharmonic will play a concert in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, in February 2008. Here’s a teaser from the NY Times article<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Adding a cultural wrinkle to the diplomatic engagement between the United States and North Korea<\/a>, the New York Philharmonic<\/a> plans to visit Pyongyang, the North Korean capital, in February, taking the legacy of Beethoven<\/a>, Bach and Bernstein to one of the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s most isolated nations.<\/p>\n

The trip, at the invitation of North Korea, will be the first significant cultural visit by Americans to that country, and it comes as the United States is offering the possibility of warmer ties with a country that President Bush once consigned to the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153axis of evil.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
