online classical music aggregator <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/www.instantencore.com\" target=\"_blank\">InstantEncore.com<\/a> has published its <a href=\"http:\/\/instantencore.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/instantencores-top-100-composers-of.html\" target=\"_blank\">list<\/a> of the most performed composers of 2010.\u00a0 What I immediately looked for, aside from who was No. 1 (Mozart), and who was No. 100 (Korngold), was who the currently living composers were who might populate such a list.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what I discovered:<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5614\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5614\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/John_Adams_hires.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5614\" title=\"John_Adams\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/John_Adams_hires-250x250.jpg?resize=250%2C250\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5614\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Adams<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The top living composer on this list was, unsurprisingly, <strong>John Adams<\/strong>, whose works were performed 184 times (by ensembles and individuals that Instant Encore tracks) and his rank was 52, which placed him between Respighi and Hindemith.\u00a0 His standing as the current <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Dean<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Cash Machine of American Composers<\/span> remains secure (with apologies to John Williams).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5693\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5693\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/john_williams-2_430x281.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5693\" title=\"john_williams 2_430x281\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/john_williams-2_430x281-250x163.jpg?resize=250%2C163\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5693\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Williams<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Speaking of which, <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">America&#8217;s Richest Composer<\/span> <strong>John Williams<\/strong> was the next living composer on the list, with his works performed (in the concert hall, not the cinemaplex) 157 times, giving him the rank of 157, right between Martinu and Purcell.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5694\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5694\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/l_00542a73ad1267b2f8f74d85e28d402d.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5694\" title=\"arvo part\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/l_00542a73ad1267b2f8f74d85e28d402d-250x176.jpg?resize=250%2C176\" alt=\"arvo part\" width=\"250\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5694\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Arvo P\u00e4rt<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next on the list, at No. 74, was Estonian composer <strong>Arvo P\u00e4rt<\/strong>, whose works were performed 107 times.\u00a0 He placed between Minkus and Ginastera.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5695\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5695\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/GS-Corigliano-DEC08.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5695\" title=\"john corigliano\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/GS-Corigliano-DEC08.jpg?resize=250%2C378\" alt=\"john corigliano\" width=\"250\" height=\"378\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5695\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Corigliano<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next down was <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Most Botoxed Composer<\/span> <strong>John Corigiliano<\/strong>, whose works were performed 85 times, placing him betwixt Offenbach and Nielsen (which no doubt displeases him to no end) at No. 86.\u00a0<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5696\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5696\" style=\"width: 250px\" 89, between <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Guitar Concerto<\/span> Rodrigo and <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Carmina Burana<\/span> Carl Orff, with his works being places of each other:<strong> Chen Yi<\/strong> at No. 91 and <strong>Jennifer Higdon<\/strong> at 93, with <strong>Philip Glass<\/strong> in at 94, followed by <strong>Pierre Boulez<\/strong> at 98.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the Top 100 appear other luminaries such as <strong>Elliot Carter<\/strong> (116, soon his age will catch up with his ranking), <strong>Thomas Ad\u00e8s<\/strong> (125), <strong>Arturo M\u00e1rquez<\/strong> (127), <strong>William Bolcom<\/strong> (135), and <strong>John Harbison<\/strong> (137).<\/p>\n<p>And who are the Top 10, you ask?\u00a0 Here they are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart<\/li>\n<li>Ludvig van Beethoven<\/li>\n<li>Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky<\/li>\n<li>Johannes Brahms<\/li>\n<li>Robert Schumann<\/li>\n<li>Johann Sebastian Bach<\/li>\n<li>Antonin Dvorak<\/li>\n<li>Franz Schubert<\/li>\n<li>Franz Joseph Haydn<\/li>\n<li>Sergei Prokofiev<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>At least there&#8217;s one 20th Century composer in the Top
