This week I’m in rehearsals for a concert that I think you’ll enjoy quite a bit.\u00a0 It’s presented by the new Portland chamber music series 45th Parallel<\/a>, now in its second season, which was founded by OSO violinist Gregory Ewer.\u00a0 Entitled Old School @ The Old Church, it’s a salon-style concert.\u00a0 Rather than presenting complete works of several movements, every piece on the program is either a small, one movement occasional piece, such as Fritz Kreisler’s Tambourine Chinoise<\/em>, or a movement of a larger work, such as Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Quintet<\/em>.\u00a0 It also features an array of performers, all built around Portland pianist William Crane: Adam LaMotte, Justin Kagan, Gregory Ewer, Nicholas Crosa<\/span>, David Hattner, Ida Rae Cahana, Stephen Marc Beaudoin, and Abby Mages.\u00a0 Included will be works of Mendelssohn, Crusell, Weber, Kreisler, Bolcom, Corigliano, and Haydn.\u00a0 It should be one of the more fun and entertaining concerts of the year – I hope you can join us!<\/p>\n
