{"id":5215,"date":"2010-08-26T23:19:44","date_gmt":"2010-08-27T06:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/?p=5215"},"modified":"2013-02-07T20:29:30","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T04:29:30","slug":"chamber-music-bliss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2010\/08\/26\/chamber-music-bliss\/","title":{"rendered":"chamber music = bliss"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_5220\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5220\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/41362_1336697231312_1647541977_808542_3392744_n.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5220 \" title=\"41362_1336697231312_1647541977_808542_3392744_n\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/41362_1336697231312_1647541977_808542_3392744_n-400x300.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5220\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paloma, Trevor, Marilyn, Ron, me, Shin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tonight I had the pleasure of playing chamber music (and some of the great pieces in the repertoire, at that) with some of my colleagues from the Oregon Symphony.\u00a0 It was part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/www.partiesofnote.org\" target=\"_blank\">Parties of Note<\/a> program put on by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/friends\" target=\"_blank\">Friends of the Oregon Symphony<\/a> (FOS).\u00a0 The music for the evening was chosen and organized by Assistant principal cellist Marilyn De Oliviera and her husband, cellist Trevor Fitzpatrick.\u00a0 The other musicians who took part were violinists Paloma Griffin, Shin-young Kwon, and Ronald Blessinger (who debuted his viola prowess in the Tchaikovsky sextet).<\/p>\n<p>The program was of single movements of chamber works, going from the smallest element of chamber music &#8211; the duo, and adding one musician at a time ending with all six players.\u00a0 The evening began with a Breval Duo for violin and cello, played by Shin and Trevor.\u00a0 Next up was the final Rondo movement of Mozart&#8217;s great Divertimento, K. 563 for string trio, played by Ron, myself, and Marilyn.\u00a0 The quartet was represented by the Scherzo from Beethoven&#8217;s Op. 18, no. 1 string quartet.\u00a0 The longest movement on the program was the first movement of Schubert&#8217;s great Cello Quintet, played by Paloma and Shin, myself, Trevor and Marilyn.\u00a0 The rousing finale of the evening was Tchaikovsky&#8217;s rousing finale to his string sextet <em>Souvenir de Florence<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>We played in the nicely proportioned (and quite acoustically lively) living room of a home in the Laurelhurst neighborhood, and it is always a joy for musicians to get to play chamber music in exactly the intimate spaces for which it was intended!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight I had the pleasure of playing chamber music (and some of the great pieces in the repertoire, at that) with some of my colleagues from the Oregon Symphony.\u00a0 It was part of the Parties of Note program put on by Friends of the Oregon Symphony (FOS).\u00a0 The music for the evening was chosen and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":303,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[136],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5215","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-chamber-music"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/pa8kC-1m7","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack_likes_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":5844,"url":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2011\/02\/21\/portland-summer-ensembles-2\/","url_meta":{"origin":5215,"position":0},"title":"portland summer ensembles","author":"Charles Noble","date":"February 21, 2011","format":false,"excerpt":"If you know a young string player or pianist (ages 10-18) who would like to do some fun and challenging chamber music studies this summer, then tell them about Portland Summer Ensembles.
