{"id":3354,"date":"2009-11-15T12:24:31","date_gmt":"2009-11-15T20:24:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/?p=3354"},"modified":"2013-02-07T20:00:54","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T04:00:54","slug":"mozart-dutilleux-and-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2009\/11\/15\/mozart-dutilleux-and-more\/","title":{"rendered":"mozart, dutilleux, and more"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday marks the beginning of the rehearsal period for our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/eventDetail.aspx?p=954\">next Classical concert<\/a>, November 21-23. \u00a0Conducted by Resident conductor Gregory Vajda, this program will feature a pretty diverse group of compositions.<\/p>\n\n<p>Though not the major work on the program, Mozart&#8217;s Sinfonia Concertante for winds will feature four of our outstanding wind principals: David Buck, flute; Martin Hebert, oboe; Carin Miller, bassoon; and John Cox, horn.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a wonderful work, and is one of those discovered pieces in which the solo parts and a rough score were found in Mozart&#8217;s own hand, but for which there was no autograph of a completed score.\u00a0 The orchestral parts were most recently reconstructed by musicologist\/pianist Robert Levin.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a short video introduction to the piece by New York Philharmonic music director Alan Gilbert:<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"400\" height=\"329\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/5sV1zUnrBkM\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Also on the program: the Second Symphony &#8220;Double&#8221; of Henri Dutilleux.\u00a0 It&#8217;s entitled the Double because it features a smaller ensemble pitted against the larger full orchestra.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an early piece of Dutilleux, who is considered to be the heir to the tradition of Debussy and Ravel, and is one of the first pieces where his mature voice emerges.\u00a0 What is his sound world?
