{"id":3262,"date":"2009-10-14T11:56:40","date_gmt":"2009-10-14T18:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/?p=3262"},"modified":"2013-02-07T19:57:51","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T03:57:51","slug":"obt-doing-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2009\/10\/14\/obt-doing-well\/","title":{"rendered":"obt doing well"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m guessing that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/obt.org\">Oregon Ballet Theatre<\/a> is doing very well with their ticket sales for their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/season_program1.html\">Emerald Retrospective<\/a> this week &#8211; I tried to buy tickets to their Friday night performance and the only tickets available were over $100 each &#8211; too rich for my blood!\u00a0 I&#8217;m glad that the less expensive seats are selling well, however.\u00a0 I think that this mirrors a trend with the Oregon Symphony where the less expensive seats are selling quite quickly, but the most expensive seats (dress circle, etc.) are often the last to sell.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure if patrons are waiting for last-minute discounts, but it is a sign of overall belt tightening due to the tough economic climate.<\/p>\n<p>I was also glad to see mention over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/#more-5167\">ArtScatter<\/a> of the lack of a live orchestra (with the exception of the Ravel, which featured pianists Carol Rich and Susan Smith) for this show, and the impact it had on the dancers and the audience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The loss for financial reasons of the ballet orchestra this season is a giant setback \u2014 recorded music just doesn\u2019t supply the magic of the moment, the lightning interplay of dancers and musicians that gives a ballet the visceral impact of <em>right here right now<\/em> \u2014 and I realized that I had spent the first several minutes of <em>Emeralds<\/em> disappointed, keenly feeling the loss of the orchestral dimension, until Iino\u2019s arrival with her hands and feet helped me slip into the reality of what <em>was<\/em> there on stage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m guessing that Oregon Ballet Theatre is doing very well with their ticket sales for their Emerald Retrospective this week &#8211;
