{"id":3191,"date":"2009-10-03T10:20:36","date_gmt":"2009-10-03T17:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/?p=3191"},"modified":"2013-02-07T19:56:45","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T03:56:45","slug":"see-locally-hear-globally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2009\/10\/03\/see-locally-hear-globally\/","title":{"rendered":"see locally, hear globally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been a couple of recent classical music groups that have appeared recently in Portland that have garnered some well-earned recognition or have dropped new albums that are receiving acclaim in the world-wide press.<\/p>\n<p>The first of these is the Eb\u00e8ne Quartet, a young French ensemble that gave a spectacular concert as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/focm.org\/index.htm\">Friends of Chamber Music<\/a> series here in Portland last season.\u00a0 They were honored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicfm.co.uk\/music\/music-news-and-features\/classic-fm-gramophone-awards\/disc-awards-2009\/\">Classic FM Grammophone Awards<\/a> with the Album of the Year award for their debut album of music by Debussy, Ravel, and Faure.\u00a0 No surprise, it&#8217;s one of the best recordings of the French quartet repertoire that I&#8217;ve heard so far.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a video promoting the recording:<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"400\" height=\"329\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/Y2Hywiv8jXU&amp;feature\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>You can also hear the recording of their live Portland concert <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/albums.aspx?CId=5115467\">here<\/a> (along with the rest of FOCM&#8217;s 2008-2009 season).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/fleckhussainmeyer.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3192\" style=\"border: 5px solid black;\" title=\"fleckhussainmeyer\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/fleckhussainmeyer-400x300.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" alt=\"fleckhussainmeyer\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second group is the superstar crossover group consisting of Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve released an album with the Detroit Symphony and conductor Leonard Slatkin called <em>The Melody of Rhythm<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/cm?lt1=_blank&#038;bc1=000000&#038;IS2=1&#038;bg1=FFFFFF&#038;fc1=000000&#038;lc1=0000FF&#038;t=dailyobservat-20&#038;o=1&#038;p=8&#038;l=as1&#038;m=amazon&#038;f=ifr&#038;md=10FE9736YVPPT7A0FBG2&#038;asins=B002F3BQB2\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There have been a couple of recent classical music groups that have appeared recently in Portland that have garnered some well-earned recognition or have dropped new albums that are receiving acclaim in the world-wide press.
