Fall is here, and so are the newly begun seasons of many local musical organizations. It’s making for a ton of wonderful music to play as a performer and listen to as an audience member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a bit of what I’ve got coming up in the next few weeks, some with the OSO and some with my other favorite ensembles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

October 22 @ 7pm – 45th Parallel Universe ensemble<\/strong>: Das Lied von der Erde<\/em> – Gustav Mahler’s last great song cycle (so heartbreakingly beautiful) in a rarely performed version for chamber ensemble by Arnold Schoenberg. [tickets & info<\/a>] First United Methodist Church, Portland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

October 25-28 – Oregon Symphony: Dvorak’s New World Symphony, Pianist Joyce Yang plays Liszt Totentanz.<\/strong>

November 1 @ 7:30pm – Open Music with Jessie Montgomery<\/strong>: violinist and composer Jessie Montgomery joins with musicians of the Oregon Symphony in a conversation hosted by Gabriel Kahane at Alberta Abbey. [tickets & info<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

November 2-4 – Oregon Symphony: Pianist Awadagin Pratt and Dame Jane Glover play Jessie Montgomery’s ‘Rounds’<\/strong>. [tickets & info<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 3 – Pyxis Quartet: ‘The Portland School’<\/strong> – music of Shaw, Bunch, Grant, Volness, and Kahane at the Old Madeleine Parish.
