1919 version), a Haydn Symphony with a cute nickname (The Hen), a perennial top-ten end-of-year radiothon fave in the Rodrigo <em>Concierto de Aranjuez<\/em>, and a bit of downer filler by Busoni.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1843\" title=\"firebird\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/firebird-200x250.jpg?resize=200%2C250\" alt=\"firebird\" width=\"200\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For the average orchestral drone, however, this is a deathly week to be in the orchestra, because most of us will just explode if we have to play the <em>Firebird<\/em> one&#8230;more&#8230;time.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s fantastic music &#8211; but it&#8217;s also used for everything.\u00c2\u00a0 Need a bit of fanciful storytelling for a youth concert?\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Firebird<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Need some loud music to soothe a restless pops crowd before the headliner comes on?\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Firebird<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Guest conductor that needs something flashy?\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Firebird<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1844\" title=\"heavy-metal-guitar-god-21498\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/heavy-metal-guitar-god-21498-200x276.jpg?resize=200%2C276\" alt=\"heavy-metal-guitar-god-21498\" width=\"200\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As for the Rodrigo &#8211; I&#8217;m pretty much in the same boat.\u00c2\u00a0 The balance issues with a guitar soloist are nearly insurmountable without amplification, and at that point I&#8217;m wondering why there is even a concerto for an instrument that can&#8217;t be heard in a large room with more than 10 people in it without amplification, never mind in a 2700 seat concert hall with a full symphony orchestra playing nearly the entire time.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never been a Rodrigo fan anyway, so maybe I should just recuse myself from discussing it altogether.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, good idea that&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Haydn is great, I actually like his music more than Mozart&#8217;s, especially as a performer, because of his unpredictability and the slight tinge of the peasant that&#8217;s always lurking just under the surface (or just plain out in the open) which makes his music much easier to pull off than the perfect supermodel phrases of Mozart.\u00c2\u00a0 Haydn&#8217;s more like the Kate Moss <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Amy Winehouse<\/span> of the 18th century, I think, to Mozart&#8217;s Heidi Klum.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1852\" title=\"kate_moss\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/kate_moss-200x154.jpg?resize=200%2C154\" alt=\"kate_moss\" width=\"200\" height=\"154\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Kate Moss\/Haydn<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1846\" title=\"heidi-klum-picture-2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/heidi-klum-picture-2-200x260.jpg?resize=200%2C260\" alt=\"heidi-klum-picture-2\" width=\"200\" height=\"260\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Heidi Klum\/Mozart<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Busoni&#8217;s cool &#8211;
