Congratulations to FearNoMusic<\/a><\/strong>, who were awarded a sizable grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council<\/a> for their Home Grown<\/em><\/a> concert coming in February 2009 as part of the Oregon 150<\/a> celebration, and the Third Angle New Music Ensemble<\/a><\/strong>, who won a grant to present works of composer Jennifer Higdon<\/a> in An Evening with Jennifer Higdon<\/em><\/a> in May 2009.<\/p>\n

\nHome Grown: Fresh, Delectable Sounds by Oregon Composers Artistic Focus (AF) Music $5400<\/strong><\/p>\n

In honor of Oregon’s 150th anniversary of statehood on February 14th, 2009, fEARnoMUSIC will present \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Home Grown: Fresh, Delectable Sounds by Oregon Composers,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a concert series to be performed in three different cities in Oregon. The RACC project grant will focus on the Portland performance at the Imago Theater on February 13, 2009. Four new works written especially to honor the anniversary will be premiered. The Oregon composers featured are Tomas Svoboda, David Schiff, Robert Kyr, Bonnie Miksch, John Peel, Jack T. Gabel, Robert McBride, Robert Priest and Ryan Francis. In addition to being well-known Oregon composers, they also have established national and international reputations.\u00c2\u00a0 Each concert will include a collaborative pre-concert lecture and Q&A session with the composers, as well as a post-concert reception for audience members to individually meet them. This program provides an extra layer of interest and excitement because three of the works will be supported by dance and one will involve computer-generated electronics representing the environment.<\/p>\n

Third Angle New Music Ensemble\u00c2\u00a0 Multnomah
\nAn Evening with Jennifer Higdon\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Artistic Focus (AF)\u00c2\u00a0 Music\u00c2\u00a0 $4800<\/strong><\/p>\n

Third Angle New Music Ensemble seeks funding for “An Evening with Jennifer Higdon”, a chamber music performance featuring the work of two-time Grammy winner, Jennifer Higdon. Ms. Higdon will act as curator and hostess for the performance, which will also feature works by composers who have had a major influence on her work. The performance will take place on Friday, May 15th, 2009, 7:30 p.m. at The Old Church, Downtown Portland.\u00c2\u00a0 This project continues Third Angle Ensemble’s 25 year tradition of bringing the leading composers of our time to Portland for performances of their work, providing Portland audiences the opportunity to meet the artists and for Third Angle Ensemble musicians to work directly with the composers.\u00c2\u00a0 Ms. Higdon will spend the week prior to the performance overseeing Third Angle’s rehearsals, meet with Third Angle patrons, participate in a pre-concert talk, and answer audience questions in a post-concert question and answer segment.<\/p>\n
