{"id":1451,"date":"2008-11-18T22:32:45","date_gmt":"2008-11-19T06:32:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/?p=1451"},"modified":"2013-02-07T19:08:51","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T03:08:51","slug":"the-present-and-future-of-pre-concert-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2008\/11\/18\/the-present-and-future-of-pre-concert-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"the present and future of pre-concert talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend I was asked to participate in one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/atthehall.aspx\">Concert Conversations<\/a> before each evening&#8217;s concert.\u00c2\u00a0 My co-host for the half-hour talks was John Pitman of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/www.allclassical.org\">KBPS 89.9 FM<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s such a consummate professional in the broadcast realm &#8211; I always marvel at how broadcasters can so deftly avoid verbal pauses (<em>ah<\/em>, <em>um<\/em>, etc) and maintain a train of thought &#8211; that the 30 minutes flew by.\u00c2\u00a0 The last time I did a pre-concert talk I had to do it myself, and it was many times more nerve-wracking doing it that way.\u00c2\u00a0 There were also many more people at the talk than I&#8217;d remembered from years ago, and that was great as well.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s good to know that there are so many concertgoers who are curious to learn as much as they can about what they&#8217;re enjoying during the concert.<\/p>\n<p>Today I was thinking of ways that the whole experience could be even more interesting for those in attendance.\u00c2\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t it be interesting to have a short video presentation with various members of the orchestra sharing their impressions of a piece, or what their most difficult licks in the piece might be, or what was their favorite moment in the piece.\u00c2\u00a0 I could envision a 15 minute video which would include either commercially pre-recorded excerpts of audio, or possibly video footage from a rehearsal.\u00c2\u00a0 Things like this are always hard to navigate through the minefield of work rules and other contractual considerations, not to mention finding the money to ensure that it doesn&#8217;t look like a typical YouTube home video, but it might be worth trying, as it could be featured on the orchestra&#8217;s website to promote the concert as well.<\/p>\n<p>That aside, I had a great experience doing the Concert Conversation this past weekend, and I encourage you to attend future conversations one half-hour prior to each Classical series concert throughout the season!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend I was asked to participate in one of the Concert Conversations before each evening&#8217;s concert.\u00c2\u00a0 My co-host for the half-hour talks was John Pitman of KBPS 89.9 FM.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s such a consummate professional in the broadcast realm &#8211; I always marvel at how broadcasters can so deftly avoid verbal pauses (ah, um, etc) [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":303,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[2],"tags":[3668],"class_list":["post-1451","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-the-orchestra-world","tag-oregon-symphony"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/pa8kC-np","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack_likes_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":830,"url":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2008\/03\/07\/fearnomusic-concert-tonight\/","url_meta":{"origin":1451,"position":0},"title":"fEARnoMUSIC concert tonight","author":"Charles Noble","date":"March 7, 2008","format":false,"excerpt":"If you're not set on what you're going to do this Friday evening, why not go hear some spankin' new music played to the hilt by some of the finest musicians around?
