It’s hot here in Oregon. How hot? Well, it’s 10 a.m. and it is already 80 degrees F, with a high of around 100 expected. I was in Eugene the past two days for my first concert run with the 2015 Oregon Bach Festiva<\/a>l.<\/p>\n Last night was our opening concert for the ‘modern’ orchestra, a celebratory affair with the powerhouse (and very hot) performer Storm Large. She joined us for Kurt Weill’s\u00a0Seven Deadly Sins<\/em>, which she’d previously done with the Oregon Symphony back in 2013 in preparation for our scrapped Carnegie Hall appearance that year (she went on to do the performance with our replacement orchestra, the Detroit Symphony). We also played\u00a0Icarian Rhapsody<\/em> by Mason Bates, and Copland’s inescapable\u00a0Appalachian Spring<\/em>. A late night drive back to Portland followed.<\/p>\n This afternoon I’ll be taking part in the Third Angle New Music’s final 2014-2015 event, Porch Music<\/strong>, playing a portion of Jay Derderian<\/a>‘s\u00a0Frozen Smolder<\/em>, with spoken word by the author of the text,\u00a0poet\/librettist Sandra Stone<\/a>, winner of the Oregon Book Award.
