I don&#8217;t recall having ever been as busy as a musician as I have these past nine months. It&#8217;s been exhausting, exhilarating, and yes, frustrating, too. I find myself with a largely free weekend (though I&#8217;m playing the cruelly difficult and transparent Fran\u00e7aix <em>String Trio<\/em> and Copland&#8217;s 13 player version of <em>Appalachian Spring<\/em> on tonight&#8217;s final <a href=\"http:\/\/classicalupclose.com\">Classical Up Close<\/a> concert in Lake Oswego, and am preparing for Monday&#8217;s rehearsals of\u00a0Christopher Rouse&#8217;s <em>Concerto for Orchestra<\/em> &#8211; his music is never, ever easy) and it almost seems like time to take stock of the season that is almost done, and perhaps look ahead at the summer&#8217;s activities, and then look at the upcoming season as well. And I will do that &#8211; just not today!<\/p>\n<p>For now, I&#8217;ll bask in the afterglow of last night&#8217;s Third Angle New Music concert with Alex Ross, which was a triumph in so many ways. The performances went well, the audience was super enthusiastic and really &#8220;into it&#8221;, and the music was rewarding and worth the effort. Stay tuned, I&#8217;ll be back this week with what I&#8217;ve promised in this post.
