{"id":127,"date":"2006-11-30T18:00:12","date_gmt":"2006-12-01T02:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/?p=127"},"modified":"2007-03-04T07:42:05","modified_gmt":"2007-03-04T15:42:05","slug":"and-you-thought-violins-were-expensive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nobleviola.com\/wordpress\/2006\/11\/30\/and-you-thought-violins-were-expensive\/","title":{"rendered":"and you thought violins were expensive&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Tourte Cello Bow Sells for Nearly $200,000 at Auction<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">By Matthew Westphal<br \/>\nNovember 29, 2006\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">A &#8220;well-known European cellist&#8221; has paid $196,000 for an early 19th-century bow made by Fran\u00c3\u00a7ois Xavier Tourte, considered the<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">father of the modern-day bow for string instruments.<\/p>\n<p>The purchase was made last month via Tarisio, an online auction house specializing in musical instruments; the price, according to a report from <em>Gramophone<\/em> Online, is the highest ever paid at auction for a single bow.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Known as the &#8220;ex-Romberg,&#8221; the bow was made between 1800 and 1810; its entire ownership history is documented, which adds considerably to its value.
