Arriving at the last minute, the Astoria Music Festival returns this summer in full force with a slate of varied offerings June 19-29 in Astoria.<\/p>\n
Here’s a look at the concerts on offer this year:<\/p>\n
Young Artists Showcase – THE STARS OF TOMORROW! Astoria Academy Apprentice Artists, selected from leading American schools of music, perform vocal and instrumental chamber music and exciting fully staged opera scenes. Festival Opera: VERDI’S RIGOLETTO! Concert Version Come early for an Opera Preview with Ruth Dobson, then: \n Festival Chamber Players: SUNDAY SERENADE – THE 3 B’s Hear these great players up close in brilliant chamber music with entertaining commentary by pianist Cary Lewis. American Classics: WEST SIDE STORY and APPALACHIAN SPRING Come early for a Concert Preview, then: Festival Grand Finale: MIDSUMMER MATINEE “Give us your hands” and join your friends for this Shakespeare-inspired Midsummer Matinee. \nThe Rainbow Room comes to Astoria! Called “the greatest jazz singer alive”, NANCY KING joins renowned bassist GLEN MOORE for a classy night of virtuosity. Festival clarinetist IGOR SHAKMAN plays Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue and Riffs, a jazzy showpiece for Woody Herman and Benny Goodman.<\/p>\n
