Arnica Quartet – Quartets of Mozart and Arriaga

April 14 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Arnicans will be playing works of Arriaga and Mozart on this free concert at the Salem Public Library.

Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga has become known as the “Spanish Mozart”, mostly due to the fact that he was a compositional child prodigy and had the misfortune of dying young (he died at the age of 19), two aspects of his life that were easily related to the much more famous composer. At the age of 16 he wrote three string quartets, which were the only works published during his lifetime.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart took the string quartet form, invented by Haydn, and brought it to new heights of expression and sophistication. His quartets span the entirety of his compositional career, and we will be playing one of his last three “Prussian” quartets, so-named for their commissioner, the cellist-king Friedrich Wilhelm II.
