big news from the oregon symphony

I just received an email from OSO president Elaine Calder to all musicians and staff.  It states that the Oregon Symphony has completely scrapped its plans for next season and will no longer play its Classical series of concerts.  Instead, the Oregon Symphony will change its name to the Oregon Pops Orchestra in order to “more effectively serve the needs of its audience”.

hahahahaha, good one!

even funnier, more absurd and considerably less likely would be a change in format to programming ONLY works from the 20th and 21st century. I’m still working on a name for this fantasy band. i promise to have it ready by the 1st season’s downbeat!

ps
don’t worry. one could always hire Andre Rieu to party down with a 21st century evening in Vienna. imagine some Strauss waltzes arranged by Sonic Youth, Radiohead, John Zorn and Bjork.

I’m there . . .

I like your Zorn idea and know that he’d approve!

As for the Andre Rieu musikabend i described, it would probably sell-out a multi-night run.

I have other ridiculous ideas that would shatter box office figures. Wanna hear ’em? Bring me on as a consultant!!! Hint: one program would entail the Eroica trio changing their name to the Erotica trio. But wait, they already thusly market. Anyway, you probably get the general thrust of my programming ideas.
