defiant requiem screens at portland art museum

DEFIANT REQUIEM Trailer from PARTISAN PICTURES on Vimeo.

The film Defiant Requiem will be presented this Sunday (October 21) as part of the NW Film Center’s 2012 Reel Music festival at 4:30 p.m. in the Whitsell Auditorium of the Portland Art Museum. It looks like it is a gorgeously produced rendering of former OSO Resident conductor Murry Sidlin’s powerful and affecting program of the same name that he first mounted with the Oregon Symphony at the Portland Expo Center. It tells the story of a musician inmate (Raphael Schächter) at the Terezin concentration camp who mounted a full production of Verdi’s Requiem as a musical protest against the evil of their Nazi captors. I wish I could attend, but sadly, my orchestral duties preclude my making the screening. Buy tickets to the screening here.
