prokofiev (alive!) in portland

Yes, it’s true! The composer and performer Prokofiev will appear, alive and well, in Portland. Well, actually not the famous (and dead) Serge, but his grandson, Gabriel.

The noted DJ and composer Gabriel Prokofiev will be featured in performance of his works by the Portland new music ensemble fEARnoMUSIC on Sunday, March 13th at 8:00 p.m. at the Aladdin Theater.

Tickets are available for sale at Ticketmaster.com.

DJ/composer Gabriel Prokofiev

Prokofiev is based in London, and in the words of the Philadelphia Daily News, is “helping classical music rediscover itself.” At the concert, Prokofiev will spin turntables and perform remixes of his works. Intermixed will be works for solo piano and string quartet performed by fEARnoMUSIC. In a nod to his grandfather, FNM will also perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes.

Also, Gabriel will be giving a masterclass for the FNM Young Composers Project on Saturday, March 12, from 1-3pm, at Lewis and Clark in Evans Auditorium.  The general public is invited and the class is FREE (donations welcomed).
